The name of Ko Pha Ngan comes from the word 'Ngan', the southern dialect meaning 'sand bar', for there are many sand bars offshore around the island.

Welcome to Phangan Boats

Thank you for visiting Phangan Boats, your one stop guide to getting to and from the island of Koh Phangan. Many people have came to Koh Phangan for a holiday and ended up staying rather than return to the bleak weather and hurried lifestyle of western countries.

Koh Phangan is a place where stress and winter cold has been replaced with a laid back approach to life in an exotic tropical climate, with deserted golden beaches, a rich array of tasty foods and the ever charming Thai smile.

This site has been developed to allow the visitors to the island to be more informed about the access to the island, ensuring your transit from the mainland is a smooth and enjoyable experience.

About Koh Phangan
Image

Koh Phangan is a small tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand. It is located within the Koh Samui Archipelago, a collection of islands including Samui, Phangan, Koh Tao and the protected islands of the Ang Thong Marine park.

Koh Phangan is the second largest island in the group with a land mass of 168 sq km, with most of that being occupied by jungle and coconut plantations. The islands skyline is dominated by the Koh Ra mountain range whose peak looms over the island at a height of 635m. The only flat plains on the island are in the Bantai and northern regions of the island, where a lot of the main townships are located.

Tourists began descending upon the island over 20 years ago but there has been little development on the scale of Samui, whereas Koh Phangan still retains a lot of the original charm that brought those first travellers here all those many moons ago.

Boat Times
Image

The boats services to and from the island can be somewhat sporadic at best depending upon the season. During the high seasons, when there is a greater number of tourists on the island, the boats are quite regular at their published times.

The Seatran ferry from Koh Samui and Donsak does not service the island all year round, sometimes when it is re-instated it only runs for a few days then it is cancelled again. This can be a problem as far as access to Samui by car, an impossible task that is only accomplished by taking your car to Donsak and then back to Samui, a round trip of 6 hours to travel 15km.

Please check the timetables for your chosen method of transport as they can change daily.
